About Us

Originally founded in 2003 in the Hawkesbury district of Western Sydney as a racehorse rehab and retraining facility, Badlands Farm is now located at Grenfell NSW, in the beautiful Weddin Mountains, a mere two hour drive North West of Canberra, or four hours from Sydney. I have been a horse lover for as long as I could walk, getting my first pony when I was just six years old, but I only commenced my lifelong dream of breeding and showing quality Miniature Horses mid 2006. My aim is to breed well conformed horses up to 42" with pleasant temperaments, making them suitable for everyone. Our home-grown stock has also been consistently demonstrating aptitude in the performance side of things, particularly harness and jumping.

As our breeding goals develop and change, so does our herd, but these days we usually have up to twenty horses and ponies at any given time, which includes our resident stallions and show team, some young stock, a decent herd of broodmares and our trusty little geldings. We are proud to have horses with some of the finest US bloodlines to be found in Australia, including Rowdy, Dell Teras Paycheck, Komokos Little King Supreme, Boones Little Buckeroo, Marks Lucky Streak, Dels Cowboy, Samis Kloudy Rowdy, Roys Toy Snippets Silverado and Smithdeals Ima Pepper II. We are not afraid to have older bloodlines - why change what works!?

Sadly, in June 2007 I lost my dear old Miniature, Kitty, the one who started the Miniature obsession way back in 1988! She died at the grand old age of 29. Then in February 2014, we laid to rest our founding broodmare, Mini World Belinda. The heartbreaking decision was made to have her put to sleep aged 21 after an ongoing fight against arthritis. She was joined by Mini World Mindy in January 2015, who was put to sleep at the age of 19; and then Mini World Blue Wren in December 2018, who was put to sleep at the age of 22. And with that ended an era of Mini World mares, the cornerstone to our stud.

Jabiru Salt 'N Pepper (affectionately known as Obi) was our founding sire and integral part our breeding program for over a decade. He was 100% pinto producing, and 50% American. He was also a 75% sibling to MHAA Hall Of Fame and multi-Supreme and National Champion sire, Pixieland Pepper's Painted Perfection (also now deceased). Even though Obi himself never made it to the show ring, virtually all his siblings have been very successful showing in both halter and harness. He continually stamped his progeny with his trademark even markings, long legs and high stepping action, which has also allowed us to have ongoing success in the show ring. It was with a heavy heart that we laid him to rest in September 2019.

In 2023, we welcomed Edens War Dance to the farm. He's a 100% pinto producing, 50% American Shetland stallion by SMHC's Just Dance (IMP USA). In our first few months of ownership, he went 2x National Grand Champion at the 2023 IMHR National Show. He will bring exciting new bloodlines into our herd, while our last remaining "Obi" son Badlands Riff Raff carries on those old lines we love.
